GRE: Graduate Record Examination

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is an admissions test used around the world to screen graduate school applicants in a multitude of disciplines in the arts and sciences. It is a standardised international level test accepted for admission to various disciplines at many graduate schools in the world. Students looking to pursue master’s or doctoral programmes can take the GRE test. It comes in two formats- General and Subject test.

The purpose of the GRE is to assess critical thinking, analytical writing skills, and verbal and mathematical reasoning. Although the verbal reasoning components of the GRE reward comprehension of context and effective reading over memorization, the test nonetheless assumes competence in English. Businesses and graduate schools around the country accept the GRE. When it comes to graduate school applications, the weight of a GRE score can range from being purely formal to paramount. institutions and even sections within institutions differ greatly in how much weight is given to GRE results. Applicants with deficiencies in other credentials are more in need of high GRE scores.
